About the Artist:
One of Robert Wolverton’s favorite quotes is by Joseph Campbell, who said, “Follow your bliss.” And for this artist, that is exactly what painting and making art is all about — bliss. Robert believes that art has the power to affect people both in a positive way and in a negative way. “The fact that we feel these emotions is what makes it art,” Robert tells us. “I intend to follow my bliss and continue painting, learning and teaching what I know and have seen along the way. My hope is that I inspire others to follow their bliss, and in some small way, that people might connect with my artwork.”
Robert Wolverton’s studio, Close2Art is located in Bartlett, Tennessee.
Dogbotz Boneyard has collected the artwork of Robert Wolverton, Jr., because the mythic implications of each of his paintings impact our psyches in such a way that the art speaks to the nature of our own journeys, be it in reality, in dream, or both. The bold vivid colors, dramatic shapes, and use of text as graphic devices project imagery that is at once compelling yet disquieting, absurd yet on the mark. Cultural underpinnings abound in each piece, be they from ancient stories or contemporary folklore. Finally, it is through this outsider artist’s perspective that one discovers the innermost workings of the soul. And so, from our Dogbotz Boneyard Gallery of Art for your own personal collection, we present Robert Wolverton’s Belly of the Whale: Fifth Stage of the Monomyth Hero Journey.
