This vintage educational card game about flowers was created and copyrighted in 1899 by the Fireside Game Company and produced and distributed by Cincinnati Game Company in the same year. The Game of Flowers card game featured 52 cards with four sets of 13 cards, each depicting a flower on the front. The flowers are repeated on each set. Some of the flowers represented in the deck are Carnations, Begonias, Geraniums, Pansies, Roses, Sunflowers, Poppies and Violets.
This version is complete with 52 cards plus one card advertising a list of other Fireside Games. The game cards are in excellent vintage condition, free of tears, creases, stains, discoloration and frayed edges. The floral illustrations on the front side remain bright and colorful as does the daisy design on the back.
The game box is in good condition, showing only minor edge wear for a game more than 115 years old. Unfortunately, a former owner of the card game used a marker to denote his or her initials “FLJ” on the box cover. In addition, part of the instructions booklet has adhered to the inside front cover of the box. Please see accompanying photos for the condition of all game components.
The Game of Flowers card game offers hours of great family entertainment. It would also make a great gift for a youngster learning about common flowers or for an elementary or middle-school botany teacher. For those who collect antique games, the Game of Flowers is an ideal find.
