This antique educational card game about national flags was created and copyrighted in 1896 by the Fireside Game Company and produced and distributed by Cincinnati Game Company in the same year. The Game of Flags card game features 53 cards with four sets of 13 cards, each depicting a country’s flag on the front, plus a Crown Card. The flags of each set represent a certain geographic area of the world. Some of the national flags represented in the deck are Chile, Denmark, France, Great Britain, Morocco, United States of America and Venezuela.
This version is complete with 53 cards plus one card advertising a list of other Fireside Games. The game cards are in excellent vintage condition, free of tears, creases, stains, and frayed edges. A few cards have slight discoloration from age. The national flag illustrations on the front side remain bright and colorful as does the four-flag design on the back.
The game box is also in great vintage condition, showing only minor edge wear for a game more than 118 years old. The instructions card to the game, which was originally adhered to the inside of the box cover, has, with time, come unglued to the box; therefore, the backside of this card is damaged. The rules on the front of the instruction card are still very legible. Please see accompanying photos for the condition of all game components.
The Game of Flags card game offers hours of great family entertainment. It would also make a great gift for a youngster learning about history or for an elementary or middle-school history teacher. For those who collect antique games, the Game of Flags is an ideal find.
