Produced in the mid-1950s under the renowned Pepys card game line of Castell Brothers, Ltd., of Great Britain, the Speed card game is about, well, speed. The object of the game is for opponents to eliminate all the cards in their hands as speedily as they can.
The card game itself is in good vintage condition. The cards are void of creases, tears, frayed edges and discoloration; in fact, the illustrations remain vivid as does the unique graphic design on the back of each card. The cards total 44 in all and depict various modes of speed: animals, cars, trains, ships and airplanes.
The rules booklet is in fair condition. Originally, the rules folded out into one long sheet, but the pages have since been torn in half. There are other tears, creases and some discoloration. However, the rules are still legible so that the game can be played.
Finally, the game box is in good condition, with frayed edges due to age. The side flaps to the box top have been torn off, and someone at some point in the item’s history had taken a pen and scrawled on the box’s back. Please see accompanying photos for condition issues.
The Speed card game would make for great family entertainment. For those who of collectors of European games and toys, this vintage card game would be a wonderful addition.
