This tiki tumbler commemorating Jimmy Wong’s Restaurant in the new “Chinatown” of Chicago dates back to early 1980s. It is in excellent vintage condition, with no chips or cracks and hardly any wear.
As a Chicago South Loop restaurateur, Jimmy Wong (1914-2001) was best known for his Hong Kong Steak and the opportunity to spot celebrities at his establishments. However, Wong's greatest contribution to Chicago may be as the visionary who spearheaded the Southeast Asian business district along Argyle Street. For the better part of three decades beginning in the 1950s, Wong owned and managed Nan Yan in the 400 block of S. Clark Street and Jimmy Wong's at 426 S. Wabash Avenue and 3058 W. Peterson Avenue.
This unique commemorative tumbler would make a great addition to your kitchen to be used for any Asian, Hawaiian or South Seas-theme patio or indoor party, so add it to your collection! The tumbler is also a great gift for anyone who collects Chicago memorabilia, unique kitchenware or pottery.
