The Finegrader Game is a unique and rare family board game that focuses on all the diverse construction and grading applications that need to be completed on a major highway project. Copyrighted and manufactured in 1971 by the CMI Corporation of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, the object of this board game is to be the first contractor to complete the job and cross the finish line. Just as in actual contracting situations, the quicker the job is completed, the better off a player is. However, to do so takes a combination of good equipment, skill and luck to come out the winner.
The board game is in great vintage condition. The graphics of the box cover remain clear and crisp, and the box itself only has one edge with a minor fray. The box bottom, however, is a bit stained and has one corner that has been pushed in from shelf wear. Otherwise, the rules, game board, cards and four finegrader tokens are in wonderful shape.
Interestingly enough, a letter from then-CMI Chairman Bill Swisher to George Via, Jr., Vice President of Mega Contractors, Inc., is included with the game. In this letter, Mr. Swisher is presenting this very copy of The Finegrader Game to Mr. Via as a “Holiday Season” gift. This is a marvelous piece of provenance for a vintage board game!
The Finegrader Game promises hours of great family entertainment. It would also make a delightful gift for the children of a contractor you might know as well as for collectors of vintage games and toys.
