From the 1930s comes this colorful board game manufactured by Milton Bradley Company of Springfield, Massachusetts. The object of the game is to be the first player who flies from New York to San Francisco and back again, delivering mail at stops in between that include Buffalo, Cleveland, Detroit, Chicago, Kansas City, Denver, and Salt Lake City. Instructions for the game are located on the inside top of the game box.
The game is in good vintage condition. While the graphics on the box’s top remain vivid and crisp with an interesting biplane image of mail plane, all of the top cover corners have split throughout the years. The box bottom, however, is tight and in excellent condition. The colorful game surface is printed on the inside of the box’s bottom, where the destinations to various cities are identified. The game board colors appear as vibrant as when they were first printed. The spinner is in excellent shape, and, even though this game can be played by two to four players, a fifth wooden game token is present. We suspect that it was added at some moment during the game’s long history. To review the overall condition issues of Air Mail, please see the accompanying photographs.
Air Mail offers hours of great family entertainment. It would also make for a wonderful gift for a collector of vintage board games or for someone who collects Milton Bradley products.
