This vintage scrimshaw money clip was acquired in the early 1990s from a fisherman’s garage sale near Wellfleet, Massachusetts. The scrimshaw carving of a clipper ship on the ocean was done by a friend of the fisherman, identified only by the letter “R” on the lower left of the scrimshaw surface. The scrimshaw was adhered to a money clip that included a miniature knife and file.
This useful men’s accessory is in excellent vintage condition with very little wear. The scrimshaw remains a pastel creamy color, the carvings are clear, the silver clip works well, and both tools are easily accessible and in good working order. The silver clips has minor scuff marks. Please see attached accompanying photographs for condition issues.
This well-crafted scrimshaw money clip would delight the man of your life for any special occasion. It would also make a thoughtful gift for any collector of scrimshaw pieces or vintage men’s accessories.
