Manufactured in 1897 by The Cincinnati Fireside Game Company, this educational card game presents the history of The Mayflower and the Pilgrims from the departure from England to the arrival in the New World, and from the buildings constructed by the Pilgrims to the tools they used. This is an extraordinary and rare antique card game, still pertinent in its reflection of American history.
Overall, this game more than 100 years old is in great antique condition. Though the box top and bottom are discolored with age, the box is free of split corners or frayed edges. Do note, however, that care is required in opening the box as the cover is not sometimes easily removed from the box bottom. Game instructions are glued to the inside box cover; they are very legible but slightly yellowed with age. The 52 game cards are in excellent condition as well, free of tears, creases or frayed or grayed edges. The black-and-white photographs and illustrations on the front of the cards are clear, free of fading that often comes with age. The Mayflower image with a purple and black pilgrim design on the back of the cards remains quite colorful. Finally, included is a card that lists other educational card games produced by The Cincinnati Game Company.
This educational game promises hours of family entertainment, and it would make for a fun gift for any youngster interested in American history or for any history teacher. For those who collect antique games and toys, this card game would add value to such a collection.
