Produced in 1961 as a Laugh ‘n Learn Card Game by Russell Manufacturing Company of Leicester, Massachusetts, Playful Puppies Card Game provides an educational opportunity for youngsters to learn about 25 different dog breeds known in North America. The card game was originally acquired from an estate sale of a collector in Washington, DC. The illustrations of the puppies are all beautifully reproduced from paintings by well-known animal artist Robert E. Longheed.
Somehow a child and his or her dog just naturally go together. This card game is designed to help children know their dogs better, give them proper care, also learn traits, uses and other important facts of all 25 breeds, and have a wonderful time doing so.
A Cartoon Strip card game is also included. This second game provides many humorous hints about feeding, training, bathing, and walking, hunting and general dog care. The cartoon illustrations are delightfully rendered.
This card game is in good vintage condition. The exterior box shows some wear, has some spots and minor discoloration, and has dents at the top. The cards, though, are in great condition, free of tears, creases and frayed edges.
The card deck includes:
- 25 four-color puppy cards, which have descriptions of their respective breeds on the back;
- 21 black-and-white cartoon strip cards, which include a short clue about each dog, written in English and French;
- 2 instructions cards, one for each game;
- 1 deluxe assortment card; and,
- 1 card listing new nature games by the publisher.
Playful Puppies Card Game offers hours of family fun, as all family members learn about the different American dog breeds. This rare card game would make for a fun gift for any child who has a dog or loves dogs in general. The game is also a wonderful addition to any vintage toy and card game collection.
