Copyrighted in 1899 by Parker Brothers of Salem, Massachusetts, the Game of Old Glory is a delightful treasure for the vintage game collector. Though the original box no longer exists, a plastic case contains a complete deck of 52 cards and an instruction sheet.
The cards feature presidents and U.S. military and literary figures, such as Washington, Lincoln, Grant, Lee and many more. The crisp black-and-white images on the cards have held up pretty nicely over the century, with some light surface discoloration, some spots, and the occasional bit of corner or edge wear, but on the whole, nothing really obtrusive. The backs of the cards are illustrated with two colorful U.S. flags. The instruction sheet is creased at its folds and is a bit discolored and spotted.
The Game of Old Glory provides not only hours of family entertainment but also a fascinating look into American history. As such, this card game would make for a fun gift for a child or for a history teacher.
