As its box cover acknowledges, Smash Up, created by renowned game designer Paul Peterson for the Alderac Entertainment Group, is “The Shufflebuilding Game of Total Awesomeness!” What do pirates, ninjas, robots, zombies, aliens, wizards, tricksters, and dinosaurs have in common? They’re all trying to take over the world! But they can’t do it alone, so they’re teaming up. Every combination brings a different experience in this fast-paced shufflebuilding game.
Take two 20-card decks, smash them together, and then rock your opponents’ faces! Each faction has a different style: pirates move cards, zombies come back from the discard pile, dinosaurs are just freaking huge. Each pairing creates different gameplay. And each game is a different throw-down! Is Smash Up a game you can live without? Not if you're awesome. Choose a side. Choose two! And start the carnage!
The Smash Up: Awesome Level 9000 expansion set features four all-new distinct factions that you can mix and match to defeat your opponents. Try them with the Core Set to create exponential new combinations! Killer Plants — Better deal with these guy fast, leave them alone and they'll grow all over the place . . . like weeds! Ghosts — Unlike just about every card game in history, Ghosts benefit from having less cards in your hand. Can you be immaterial? Steampunks — Can’t leave a good base alone, the Steampunks will add new abilities to bases to help your strategies. Bear Cavalry — What’s scary? A bear. What’s really scary? A Cossack riding a bear! Bear Cavalry will use fear to drive opposing minions away to other bases. Combine these groups into teams of two for various effects! Smash Up: Awesome Level 9000 also contains eight new Base cards to compete over.
Smash Up: Monster Smash is the expansion set that also consists of four new factions for Smash Up: Vampires, Mad Scientists, Werewolves and Giant Ants. Tremble before the power of the ants! Vampires gain power as they destroy your opponents’ minions. Mad Scientists have released death in the form of powerful creations and can empower various minions. Werewolves have explosive power to beat down opponents. Giant Ants work as a great hive mind, spreading their power around as necessary to ensure their atomic-age victory. Smash Up: Monster Smash can be played on its own as a two-player game or combined with other Smash Up titles to allow for up to four players to compete at the same time.
Smash Up: Science Fiction Double Feature expansion set brings four new decks to the base-smashing business with abilities unlike those seen before. Time Travelers allow you to reuse your cards time and time again. Cyborg Apes take actions that bring your minions to a whole new level of power. Super Spies use their mojo in espionage to plot out the future of you and your opponents, while finally the Shapeshifters could be anyone. This expansion features enough for two players right out of the box, and it can be combined with any Smash Up set to support up to four players.
Finally, just when you thought Smash Up might escape, the International Gaming Authority reminded us we were honor‑bound to include Cthulhu as part of the product line. So Smash Up: The Obligatory Cthulhu Set is the expansion set that offers the Cthulhu‑est product ever. This fourth expansion set features crazy Cthulhu cultists, fishy Innsmouth locals, horrifying Elder Things, and good old Miskatonic University members (the Fightin’ Cephalopods). This set also includes a new card type fittingly known as “Madness,” which each of these groups use to various effects. If you’re ready to embrace the creatures beyond the understanding of mortal men, then shuffle up these guys with your pirates, bear cavalry, and others for the most awesome fit of crazed insanity you’ve had in a long time!
The core and expansion sets of Smash Up are new and come in their original shrink wrap.
