Hand-carved from a beautiful piece of apple coral with a shell beak, this stunning hummingbird fetish was designed by Zuni artist Jason Red Elk, who lives in western New Mexico. This fetish is in wonderful vintage condition, and it is signed “Red Elk” on the bottom of its base.
This little fetish can guide the student of spiritual pursuits in two ways: first, through the totem teacher it represents (Hummingbird), and second, through the healing vibrations of the gemstone from which the image has been carved (Red Coral).
Some of the spiritual lessons that Hummingbird teaches are:
- Quintessential symbol for joy.
- Exuberance, exhilaration, and good health.
- Learning from the past.
- Overcoming the seemingly impossible.
- Hope in any circumstance.
Our tribal elders remind us that Sister Hummingbird is the only bird that has the ability to fly backwards. This teaching helps us to understand that, though the past cannot be relived nor changed, it can still guide us through the experiences and lessons we encountered in the past.
Coral is an organic “stone” that varies in color from pink, red, blue and black. Corals are marine invertebrates that typically live in compact colonies of many identical individual polyps. The group includes the important reef builders that inhabit tropical oceans and secrete calcium carbonate to form a hard skeleton. Some of Red Coral’s healing properties include:
- Reconnection with nature and all its wonders.
- Manifestation of prosperity and love.
- Emergence of creativity and optimism.
- Restoration of inner peace and strength.
- Acknowledgment of one’s purpose in life.
When meditating with this potent totem carving, the challenge, of course, is to blend the universal teachings of the Hummingbird with the healing energies of the Coral. We recommend exploring the vibrations of this fetish while meditating among plants and flowers, whether indoors or outdoors, to feel the Divine love it emanates.
This coral hummingbird fetish so beautifully carved by Jason Red Elk would make an ideal gift for a loved one in need of its teachings and healing properties, for someone who has created a prayer wheel in her/his special meditation space or room, or for a collector of gemstones or tribal artifacts.
