Copyrighted in 1972 by designer Sheila Hoffman and then again in 1978 by Wine Diversions, Ltd., The Wine Game is a unique adult board game that provides a trip through the famous wine-producing countries of the world — France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal and the United States. The Wine Game has the thrills, excitement, and speculation of the real wine world. The game involves buying and selling great vineyards, bidding in rare wine auctions, and risking your fortune on a chance to become the wine baron of the world.
The Wine Game includes:
- A beautifully and uniquely designed grape cluster game board;
- Six playing pawns;
- One die;
- Play money in four denominations: $5,000, $50,000, $100,000 and $500,000;
- 25 Good/Bad News cards;
- 10 Regional Cartel vineyard cards;
- 25 Subregional vineyard cards;
- 4 Wine Estate sale cards; and,
- A rules booklet.
This board game is in great vintage condition. The box cover shows minimal signs of wear in one or two of its corners and has a scuff mark on the top. The box bottom does have a puncture in the middle of the box bottom, but this has not damaged any of the game components, which remain in excellent condition. Please review accompanying photographs for condition issues.
The Wine Game is a rare, hard-to-find treasure and so would make for a great addition to any vintage game and toy collection. As for aficionados and devotees on fine wines, this game offers hours of great entertainment. Just make sure to have a bottle of champagne ready to toast the wine baron at game’s end!
