This vintage candle snuffer from the 1930s is constructed of heavy cast iron. The snuffer itself is in the shape of a pine cone atop of which perches a squirrel eating a nut. The handle of the candle snuffer looks like a tree twig, which curls at one end so that the snuffer can be held by one finger.
This vintage piece has much wear and oxidation from its many years of use; however, the texture of the squirrel, pine cone and tree twig still have great detailed definition. The squirrel also retains much of its original tan, orange and white paint.
This playful candle snuffer would make for a delightful gift for those who enjoy or collect vintage cast iron or metal works. If that’s you, then don’t let this Depression-era piece pass you by!
