Acquired from a trading post in the mountains of Colorado, this 1940s large medallion of a thunderbird was hand-beaded by a Navajo artisan. The beadwork has been sewn to a round piece of deer hide. The stunning design of the thunderbird is composed of red, white, black and sky blue glass beads. The beadwork is beautifully detailed.
This beaded thunderbird medallion is in great vintage condition, with no missing beads. The number “6” has been written in blue ink on the backside of the medallion (please see attached photographs).
This large thunderbird medallion would make for a surprising gift for anyone who enjoys or collects Native American artifacts. The medallion can be easily sewn to a medicine pouch, tobacco bag, or piece of clothing such as a shirt or vest.
