From the tail end of the Hippie movement of the 1960s and 70s comes this hand-made vintage belt buckle from India. Composed of brass-plated metal, this buckle depicts the crab representative of the astrological sign Cancer. The crab is rendered in red cloisonné and the surrounding background of the belt buckle in teal blue enamel. For those unfamiliar with the term, cloisonné is an ancient technique for decorating metalwork objects, in recent centuries using vitreous enamel, and in older periods also inlays of cut gemstones, glass, and other materials.
This Cancer belt buckle is an appropriate accessory for both men and women. It is in great vintage condition with a wonderful patina, but after 40-plus years, the buckle does have some wear to the brass plating. The word “INDIA” is drilled into the buckle’s backside metal. This buckle will accommodate a belt no wider than 1.75 inches.
This hard-to-find and collectible vintage Hippie belt buckle would make a great gift for the collector on your special list or a fine way to complete your own collection of quality belt accessories. But, hey, don’t just collect this marvelous belt buckle, be a rebel and wear it!
