Product Description:
Copyrighted in 1961 by the National Wildlife Federation of Washington, D.C., and manufactured by the Russell Manufacturing Company of Leicester, Massachusetts, North American Song Birds Card Game offers two children’s card games in one.
First, in the Bird Identification Game, the players are shown the colorful illustration of a national bird. This game is designed to give children an accurate knowledge of birds and their habits. The stunning illustrations have been drawn by three of the greatest mid-century nature artists: Roger Tory Peterson, Don E. Eckelberry, and Walter A. Weber. An instruction card of this identification game accompanies the 25 colorful bird cards.
Second, the Cartoon Strip Game is played exactly like the Bird Identification game. This humorous and instructive game is meant to teach children about our natural resources: lakes, rivers, mountains, fields, forests and wildlife. The poetic description on the backside of each cartoon card is written in English and French. An instruction card for this second game is included with the 20 cartoon cards.
Accompanying the two decks of game cards are a card that identifies the different anatomical parts of a typical bird along with two product promotion cards. Please see accompanying photographs.
This card game is in good vintage condition. The game box shows signs of wear but is in overall good condition. All cards are free from tears, creases, and frayed edges. The colors of the bird illustrations remain very vivid. The black-and-white cards have some minor yellowing from age and some of the print is light.
The North American Song Birds Two-in-One Card Game would make for a great gift for any child interested in the natural world. The game would also serve as a delightful teaching tool for an elementary school teacher or for parents at home. Finally, for collectors of vintage games, this instructive card game makes for an ideal addition to such a collection.
