This vintage 1950s, Mid-Century Modern fly figurine is cast from black cast iron. The details of its head, body, legs and wings have been beautifully detailed by a master ironworker. In addition, the wings of the fly lift up to reveal a hidden space where, at the time of the figurine’s creation, wooden matches could be stored; and sometimes, the space also served as an ashtray. In today’s world, other small desk items such as paperclips could inhabit the small storage area.
This handcrafted Folk Art fly is in great vintage condition, free of marks and scratches. It does have a wonderful patina with some oxidation, indicating the authenticity of the item’s age.
The cast iron fly match safe would make for a fun gift for the desk of someone’s office or the shelf of a man cave. For collectors of Mid-Century metal products, this figurine could serve as a playful addition to one’s collection.
