This stunning Oglala Sioux beaded necklace was handcrafted in the mid-1980s by jewelry-maker Kessie Fire Thunder at Pine Ridge, South Dakota. This beautifully designed traditional necklace has a central rosette that measures 2.25 inches in width and includes a colorfully beaded fringe that drops about 2.375 inches at the necklace’s bottom. The overall color scheme embraces warm tones: pink, red, yellow, brown and black. Many of the pink beads are translucent, providing a gorgeous sparkle to the entire necklace.
This piece is in excellent vintage condition, free of any missing beads. The leather on the backside of the necklace to which the rosette beads have been sewn bears the signature of Kessie Fire Thunder. Another name, perhaps that of the original owner, has also been written on the leather, but this name is illegible.
This eye-catching Oglala Sioux beaded necklace would make for a fine gift for any woman, and it could be worn with both formal and casual wear. Finally, this traditional Sioux necklace would make a wonderful addition to any collection of Native American handcrafted jewelry.
