About the Artist:
Great American Products (formerly known as The Great American Buckle Company) was founded in 1971. One of its original co-founders, Roger Tuttle, serves as the firm’s current President and CEO. During its first few years, the company was an entrepreneurial mail-order firm selling to the motorcycle market, but later it emerged as a manufacturer specializing in the production and sale of hand-crafted pewter belt buckles, which were sold to specialty shops throughout the country. At the peak of the buckle market, in the late 1980s, Great American Products had a list of over 5,000 active customers.
Though no longer in the Midwest but now located in Texas, Great American Products has become the leader in the pewter-casting industry, designing and manufacturing not only belt buckles but also miniatures, figurines, paperweights, key chains and lapel pins.
Straight out of the Jurassic era comes this pure pewter belt buckle that presents the well-known image of the beloved dinosaur Triceratops. The iconic portrait of this “terrible lizard” is surrounded by green enameled foliage, a ruddy volcano with gray smoke, and the blue sky above it all. This unusual men’s belt buckle was designed in 1988 by The Great American Buckle Company of Chicago, Illinois and made in the U.S.A. The serial number of this buckle is #1867. All manufacturing information appears on the backside of the buckle, as does the company logo and an inscription about the “horned-face” Triceratops.
This stunning buckle will accommodate belts no larger than 1.625” wide. It is in excellent vintage condition and appears to have rarely been worn.
This Triceratops belt buckle would make a humorous gift for any man, or even boy, who has a fascination with all things prehistoric, or it would serve as a great addition to any men’s buckle collection.
