Copyrighted in the mid-1950s by the National Wildlife Federation and distributed by Springbok Editions, Inc., of New York, this entertaining and approved educational game is played just like the traditional Old Maid card game, the only difference being that the images of the Vintage Old Maid Card Game-Wildlife Edition depict animals, birds, flowers, and fish as they exist in their natural settings. At the time of production, the gorgeous illustrations on the cards were painted by America’s most famous wildlife artists: Fred Everett, Francis Lee Jaques, Al Kreml, Roger Tory Peterson and Walter Weber.
This card game is in great vintage condition for being more than 60 years of age. The box top’s illustration remains vibrant with light wear, and the box bottom has a bit of foxing. There are two sets of instructions: the instruction card provides the basic rules of the game, whereas the lengthy, folded instruction sheet not only includes the rules but also a detailed description of the creatures portrayed in the game. The deck of 39 cards is also in great condition with the cards free creases, folds or tears.
The Vintage Old Maid Card Game-Wildlife Edition would be a great gift for any child interested in the creatures of land, sea and air, and the game makes for hours of family entertaining. Elementary-school science or language arts teachers may also be interested in this card game.
