Bead and Bone Choker with Abalone Shell Pendant

This traditional Ojibwa choker, dating from the late 1970s, is composed of white-dyed bone tubes, red and blue plastic dodecahedral trade beads, and an oval abalone-shell pendant dyed turquoise. A 1.5-inch leather divider separates each section of bone tubes from that of beads. The beautiful abalone pendant hangs of the middle leather divider. Leather strips, about seven inches in length each, extend from each end of the choker so it can be tied and adjusted to a neck size below 2O inches.

This eye-catching choker is in excellent vintage condition, with sparse yellowing on a few of the bone tubes, which occurs naturally with age. The choker is in such grand condition, it may have been infrequently used. This piece comes from Dogbotz Boneyard proprietor Patrick Price’s personal collection of tribal jewelry.

This traditional choker would make for an appropriate yet subtle addition to any man’s or woman’s ceremonial outfit. It would also be a wonderful gift for anyone who collects tribal jewelry or artifacts.
