The Gray Ghost was an American historical television series which aired on CBS in syndication from October 10, 1957, to July 3, 1958. The show is based upon the true story of Major John Singleton Mosby, a Virginia officer in the Confederate Army, whose cunning and stealth earned him the nickname “Gray Ghost.”
The Gray Ghost starred Tod Andrews as Major Mosby. Unfortunately, the show was cancelled after one season of thirty-nine half-hour episodes. High production costs may have made the program too expensive to continue.
Manufactured and released by Transogram Toys and Games in 1958, The Gray Ghost: A Game of Mosby’s Raiders is an adventure board game based on the same historical exploits of Colonel John S. Mosby as depicted in the 1950s TV show. Each player is a Rebel Raider who must accomplish a secret mission, harass the enemy lines, and capture his quota of enemy soldiers.
This rare board game is complete and in good vintage condition. The cover has a colorful illustration straight from The Gray Ghost TV Show; however, the box top has creases, worn corner edges, and one split along the bottom right-edge. The box bottom is worn with age as well. Though the pawns are replaced, all other game components are original. Directions are included. Please view the accompanying photographs for condition issues.
Due to its rarity, The Gray Ghost: A Game of Mosby’s Raiders board game is a must-have for vintage toy and game collectors, especially for those who collect TV show-themed games. In addition, many hours of family entertainment are possible when playing this board game, so it makes for a wonderful treasure!
